Vimshottari Antardasha Calculator
Use this tool to generate the 9 Antardasha (Bhukti) periods inside a selected Mahadasha. Enter the Mahadasha lord, start date, and duration to instantly get the timeline.
Default values follow standard Vimshottari years (Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17).
What is an antardasha calculator?
An antardasha calculator is a timing tool used in Vedic astrology to divide a major planetary period (Mahadasha) into sub-periods called Antardasha or Bhukti. These sub-periods help astrologers and students understand when specific planetary influences become stronger in everyday life.
In the Vimshottari Dasha system, a full cycle totals 120 years and is distributed among 9 planets. Each Mahadasha contains all 9 Antardashas in sequence, beginning with the same planet as the Mahadasha lord.
How this calculator works
1) Planetary order used
The sequence follows standard Vimshottari order:
- Ketu
- Venus
- Sun
- Moon
- Mars
- Rahu
- Jupiter
- Saturn
- Mercury
2) Duration formula
The duration of each Antardasha is calculated with:
- Antardasha Duration = (Mahadasha Duration × Antardasha Planet Years) / 120
Example: inside a Venus Mahadasha (20 years), Venus/Moon Antardasha duration is (20 × 10) / 120 = 1.6667 years.
3) Date generation
After calculating each duration, the tool adds it to the prior period end date, giving a complete chronological schedule from the selected start date to Mahadasha completion.
How to use this antardasha calculator
- Select your Mahadasha lord.
- Enter the Mahadasha start date.
- Keep default Mahadasha years or enter a custom value (useful for partial/balance periods).
- Click Calculate Antardasha Periods.
- Read the table for start date, end date, and duration of each Antardasha.
Interpreting your output
Every Antardasha represents a specific sub-theme within the larger Mahadasha story. A quick interpretation framework:
- Mahadasha lord: Main life chapter.
- Antardasha lord: Current active sub-theme.
- Natal chart placement: Determines whether results are supportive, mixed, or challenging.
- House rulership and dignity: Refines outcomes in career, relationships, finances, health, or spiritual growth.
Why people use an antardasha calculator
- To plan major decisions by period timing
- To correlate life events with planetary phases
- To improve consistency in chart analysis
- To study Vimshottari dasha logic step by step
Important notes and limitations
This tool provides a mathematically correct Antardasha schedule based on inputs. However, real astrological interpretation requires full chart context, including ascendant, planetary strengths, aspects, divisional charts, transits, and potentially Pratyantardasha (sub-sub periods).
