What is the area of a rhombus?
A rhombus is a four-sided shape where all sides are equal in length. The area of a rhombus tells you how much surface the shape covers. Depending on what measurements you know, there are multiple formulas you can use.
Formulas used in this calculator
1) When both diagonals are known
Area = (d₁ × d₂) / 2
This is the most common method in geometry problems. Just multiply the diagonals and divide by 2.
2) When base and height are known
Area = b × h
A rhombus is also a parallelogram, so the area rule for parallelograms works here too.
3) When side and angle are known
Area = s² × sin(θ)

Worked examples
Example A: Using diagonals

If side = 8 and angle = 30°, then area = 8² × sin(30°) = 64 × 0.5 = 32 square units.
