Why an aura calculator matters in PoE
In Path of Exile, your build can feel completely different based on how many auras you can fit. Offense auras like Hatred and Wrath, defense auras like Determination and Grace, and utility options like Precision or Vitality all compete for the same limited reservation space. A good aura calculator lets you test combinations before spending currency or passive points.
This tool is designed for fast build planning. You can mix mana and life reservation, apply global reservation efficiency from your tree and gear, then layer local bonuses from sockets, links, or specific setup pieces.
How the calculator works
The calculator uses a straightforward model for reservation cost:
- Percentage auras: Pool × (Base % / 100) × Efficiency Factor × Multiplier
- Flat reservation skills: Base Flat × Efficiency Factor × Multiplier
- Efficiency Factor: 100 / (100 + total efficiency)
Total efficiency is the sum of global and local efficiency for that aura. Multiplier defaults to 100%, but you can set values like 92% if a linked support or special interaction modifies reservation cost.
Common aura reservation values to test
Popular percentage-based auras
- Determination: 50%
- Grace: 50%
- Hatred / Wrath / Anger: 50%
- Zealotry: 50%
- Discipline: 35%
- Purity auras: 35%
- Herald skills: often 25%
- Banner skills: often 10%
Common flat reservation skills
- Precision: flat mana reservation scaling by gem level
- Vitality / Clarity: flat reservation scaling by gem level
How to fit more auras into one build
1) Stack reservation efficiency deliberately
Tree clusters, mastery nodes, Eldritch implicits, and influenced modifiers can significantly reduce real reservation costs. Even one or two upgrades can create enough space for a utility aura.
2) Use support and socket strategy
Linking key auras with efficiency-reducing supports or placing them in specialized items can lower the final reservation footprint. Keep your most expensive auras in your best efficiency setup.
3) Split reservation across mana and life
Some builds reserve defensive utility on life while keeping mana open for attacks and casts. This is often build-defining for low-life or hybrid planning styles.
4) Check breakpoints before making purchases
Many players overspend trying to squeeze one extra aura. Usually the best approach is to test a breakpoint: “Do I need 4% more efficiency, or 8%?” This calculator helps you estimate exactly what is missing.
Mistakes players make when planning auras
- Forgetting flat reservation skills in total cost.
- Not checking if remaining mana is enough to cast movement and utility skills.
- Applying efficiency globally when only one aura gets local benefits.
- Ignoring life reservation impact on survivability.
Quick FAQ
Can I use this for both mana and life reservation?
Yes. Each aura row can be assigned to either mana or life.
Does this replace in-game testing?
No. It is a planning tool. Final numbers can vary with patch changes, gem updates, or unique item interactions.
What should my minimum unreserved mana be?
Enough to cast your core rotation and movement skill comfortably. For many builds, having a small but stable unreserved mana buffer is better than forcing one more aura.
