How this BA new tier points calculator works

This tool is designed to help you estimate your yearly progress toward British Airways status using a spend-led approach to tier points. You enter your qualifying spend and any additional tier point sources, and the calculator shows your estimated total, current tier, and how far you are from the next level.

What you should enter

  • Tier points already earned: Any points already posted in your membership year.
  • Eligible BA spend: Flight spend that qualifies for tier points.
  • BA Holidays spend: Package spend that may qualify under BA rules.
  • Other qualifying points: Promotions, partner activity, or card-based additions (if applicable).
  • Earn rates and multiplier: Keep defaults at 1 unless a published promotion says otherwise.

Default tier thresholds used in this calculator

The calculator uses the following target levels by default:

Tier Tier Points Required
Bronze 3,500
Silver 7,500
Gold 20,000
Gold Guest List 65,000
Important: Airline programs can change at any time. Treat this as a planning tool, then verify current BA policy before booking.

Example scenario

Say you have 1,000 tier points already, expect £4,000 eligible spend, and £1,500 in qualifying holidays spend, all at 1 TP per £. With no multiplier and no extra promotions, your total would be:

1,000 + 4,000 + 1,500 = 6,500 tier points.

That places you below Silver (7,500) and shows exactly how much more you need to close the gap.

Tips for using the calculator strategically

1) Plan by membership year, not calendar year

Status deadlines usually follow your personal collection year. Focus on that cut-off date when estimating future trips.

2) Update monthly

Re-run your numbers each month so you can spot shortfalls early and avoid a last-minute status run.

3) Model upside and downside

Create two estimates: conservative and optimistic. This gives you a better decision range for upgrades, routing, and paid seat choices.

4) Treat promotions carefully

Only apply a multiplier when terms are clear and you are sure your booking qualifies. If uncertain, leave multiplier at 1.
