Fertile Window Calculator
Enter your cycle details to estimate ovulation and your best days to try after your period.
How this “best time to get pregnant after period” calculator works
This calculator estimates your fertile window based on the first day of your last period and your average cycle length. In most cycles, ovulation happens about 14 days before your next period, but this can vary from person to person.
Pregnancy is most likely when sperm are already present in the reproductive tract before ovulation. Sperm can live up to 5 days, while the egg survives for about 12 to 24 hours. That is why the fertile window usually includes:
- The 5 days before ovulation
- The day of ovulation
- Sometimes the day after ovulation
Best time to try after your period ends
Many people ask, “How soon after my period should I try to conceive?” The answer depends on your cycle length:
- Short cycles (21–25 days): fertile days may start soon after bleeding stops.
- Average cycles (26–32 days): fertile days usually begin about a week after period day 1.
- Longer cycles (33+ days): ovulation may happen later, so fertile days are pushed out.
If your cycles are regular, timing intercourse every 1 to 2 days during your fertile window gives the highest chance of conception.
Quick conception timing strategy
1) Track your cycle baseline
Start by tracking at least 2 to 3 cycles. Write down period start dates, cycle lengths, and any ovulation symptoms.
2) Focus on the 3 highest-probability days
The day of ovulation and the 2 days before ovulation are often the strongest days for conception attempts.
3) Add body signs for accuracy
Cycle calculators are helpful estimates, but body signs can improve precision:
- Clear, stretchy cervical mucus (egg-white consistency)
- Positive ovulation predictor kit (LH surge)
- A small rise in basal body temperature after ovulation
If your cycle is irregular
Irregular cycles can make calendar-based prediction harder. If your cycle length changes month to month, use a wider trying window (for example, every 2 days from cycle day 8 through day 20) and add ovulation testing.
If cycles are frequently under 21 days, over 35 days, or absent for months, consider speaking with a gynecologist or fertility specialist.
Common questions
Can you get pregnant right after your period?
Yes, especially with short cycles or longer bleeding. If ovulation occurs early, sperm from intercourse right after your period can still be present when ovulation happens.
How often should we try during fertile days?
Every 1 to 2 days is commonly recommended for healthy couples trying to conceive. Daily intercourse during peak days is also fine if comfortable.
How accurate is a period-based ovulation calculator?
It is an estimate, not a diagnosis tool. Stress, travel, illness, postpartum changes, medications, and hormonal shifts can move ovulation earlier or later.
When to seek professional fertility support
- Under age 35: no pregnancy after 12 months of trying
- Age 35 or older: no pregnancy after 6 months of trying
- Known reproductive or hormonal conditions (PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid disorders, very painful or absent periods)
Early support can save time and improve outcomes. A clinician can evaluate both partners and provide a personalized plan.
