Each-Way Betting Calculator

Calculate total stake, returns, and profit for win, place-only, and lose outcomes.

Each-way bets have 2 parts: win + place. A £10 EW stake = £20 total per line.
Supported formats: fractional (8/1, 11/2) or decimal (9.00, 6.50).
Use 1 for a single selection. Increase for multiples/combos.

What is an each-way bet?

An each-way bet is really two bets of equal size: one bet on your selection to win, and one bet on your selection to place (for example, finish in the top 2, 3, 4, or more places depending on race terms). Because it is two bets, your outlay is doubled versus a straight win-only stake.

Example: a £5 each-way stake means £5 on the win + £5 on the place = £10 total stake.

How this betting calculator each way works

Inputs you enter

  • Stake per part: the amount staked on each side of the bet (win and place).
  • Win odds: fractional (like 10/1) or decimal (like 11.00).
  • Place terms: the fraction of the win odds paid on the place part (e.g., 1/5).
  • Lines: how many separate each-way lines you are staking.

Outputs you get

  • Total stake across all lines.
  • Return and profit if your selection wins.
  • Return and profit if your selection places but does not win.
  • Loss if your selection finishes outside the paid places.

Core formulas

  • Total stake = Stake per part × 2 × Lines
  • Place odds (profit part) = Win odds (profit part) × Each-way fraction
  • Win outcome return = (Win return + Place return) × Lines
  • Place-only outcome return = Place return × Lines
  • Profit = Return − Total stake

Worked examples

Example 1: Selection wins

Stake £10 EW at 8/1, place terms 1/5. Place odds become 8/5. Total stake is £20. If the selection wins, both parts cash: win return + place return. The calculator shows the full payout and net profit.

Example 2: Selection places only

Stake £10 EW at 12/1, place terms 1/4. Place odds become 3/1. If the selection finishes in a paid place but not first, only the place part returns. The win part loses.

Common each-way mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting total stake is doubled on each-way bets.
  • Assuming all bookmakers use the same place terms.
  • Ignoring the number of places paid in the specific market.
  • Comparing only headline odds instead of total expected return.

Quick FAQ

Can I use decimal odds?

Yes. Enter decimal odds directly (must be greater than 1.00), and the calculator will convert internally.

Do bookmaker “extra places” matter?

Yes. Extra places can make each-way bets more attractive because the chance of landing the place side can improve. This calculator handles the payout math; you still need to check actual place terms in your market.

Is each-way betting always better than win-only?

Not always. Each-way can reduce variance, but you pay for that extra coverage. Value depends on odds, place terms, field size, and your estimated probability.

For information only. Bet responsibly and never stake more than you can afford to lose.
