IVF Birth Date Calculator
Use this IVF due date calculator to estimate your expected delivery date and key pregnancy milestones based on your IVF timeline.
Formula used: Due date = Transfer date + (266 - embryo age in days).
Formula used: Due date = Egg retrieval date + 266 days.
Formula used: Due date = LMP + 280 days.
How an IVF birth calculator works
An IVF birth calculator estimates your expected due date by using dates from your treatment cycle rather than ovulation guesses. Because IVF gives clear timing for fertilization and transfer, due date estimates are often more precise than with spontaneous conception.
Most calculators can use one of three inputs:
- Embryo transfer date (plus embryo age such as day 3 or day 5)
- Egg retrieval date
- Last menstrual period (LMP)
IVF due date formulas explained
1) Transfer-based formula
If you know your transfer date and embryo age, this is typically the best method. A full-term pregnancy is 266 days from fertilization. Because the embryo is already a few days old at transfer, we subtract embryo age from 266 before adding to transfer date.
- Day 3 transfer: transfer date + 263 days
- Day 5 transfer: transfer date + 261 days
- Day 6 transfer: transfer date + 260 days
2) Retrieval-based formula
Egg retrieval generally occurs very close to fertilization timing in IVF. The due date estimate is retrieval date + 266 days.
3) LMP-based formula
Traditional obstetric dating uses LMP + 280 days. This can still be useful if your clinic gave pregnancy dates in LMP format for records and appointments.
Why IVF dating can feel different from natural conception dating
Many patients are surprised that pregnancy week counts start before embryo transfer. That happens because obstetric age counts from a theoretical LMP date (about two weeks before conception/fertilization). In IVF, this can make early milestones feel βaheadβ of what seems intuitive.
For example, at the time of a day-5 embryo transfer, obstetric gestational age is typically about 2 weeks + 5 days.
Important milestones after IVF conception
Beyond the estimated birth date, many people want milestone planning. This calculator includes common checkpoints:
- Estimated conception/fertilization date
- End of first trimester (13 weeks 6 days)
- End of second trimester (27 weeks 6 days)
- Term window opening at 37 weeks
Your clinic may schedule tests at different points depending on age, medical history, singleton vs twins, and embryo testing status.
How to use this birth calculator IVF tool correctly
Step-by-step
- Select your method (transfer, retrieval, or LMP).
- Enter the exact treatment date from your records.
- If using transfer date, choose the correct embryo age (day 3/day 5/day 6).
- Click Calculate IVF Birth Date.
For best accuracy, use dates from your fertility clinic portal or discharge paperwork.
Frequently asked questions
Is the IVF due date always exact?
No due date is exact. It is an estimate. Most births happen within a range around the due date.
Does frozen embryo transfer (FET) change the due date formula?
The same transfer-based formula applies. What matters for dating is transfer day and embryo age, not whether the embryo was fresh or frozen.
What if my clinic gave me a different date?
Always defer to your clinic and obstetric provider. They may adjust dating based on ultrasound and clinical findings.
Can this calculator be used for twins?
It can estimate due date from IVF timing, but multiple gestation pregnancies are often managed differently and may deliver earlier than singleton pregnancies.
Practical planning tips after you get your IVF estimated due date
- Save the result and compare it with your clinic portal.
- Add trimester and scan windows to your calendar.
- Discuss medication transition timing from fertility clinic to OB care.
- Track symptoms, but rely on medical advice for anything concerning.
