Pregnancy Birth Date Calculator

Use this calculator to estimate your due date, current gestational age, and key pregnancy milestones.

Most common method. Adds 280 days (40 weeks).

What a birth calculator in pregnancy can tell you

A birth calculator pregnancy tool gives you an estimated due date (EDD) and helps you understand where you are in your pregnancy timeline. It can also estimate your current gestational age, your trimester, and major date markers such as when the second and third trimesters begin.

It is important to remember that this is an estimate, not an exact prediction. Most babies are born within a window around the due date rather than on one exact day.

How due date calculation works

1) Last Menstrual Period (LMP)

This is the standard clinical method. Pregnancy is counted as 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of your last menstrual period. This method is widely used because it provides a consistent way to track gestational age, even when ovulation day is unknown.

2) Conception date

If you know conception timing, due date is usually estimated as conception date plus 266 days (38 weeks). This can be helpful when ovulation and conception are tracked closely.

3) IVF transfer date

For IVF pregnancies, providers often use embryo transfer timing. The embryo age at transfer (for example day 3 or day 5) is used to calculate expected delivery timing more precisely.

Understanding gestational age

Gestational age is counted from LMP, not from conception. That means at the moment of conception, pregnancy is already considered about 2 weeks along in most clinical systems.

  • First trimester: 0 weeks to 13 weeks, 6 days
  • Second trimester: 14 weeks to 27 weeks, 6 days
  • Third trimester: 28 weeks to birth

Why your due date may change

Even with a good calculator, your provider may adjust your due date. This happens because of:

  • Early ultrasound dating that differs from LMP estimate
  • Uncertain cycle length or irregular periods
  • Unclear conception timing
  • Variation in early fetal growth measurements

In many pregnancies, first-trimester ultrasound is the most accurate method for dating.

Pregnancy milestone guide

First trimester highlights

Early organ development begins. Prenatal vitamins, folic acid, and early prenatal care are especially important in this phase.

Second trimester highlights

Many people feel better physically and gain energy. Anatomy scan is often performed around 18 to 22 weeks.

Third trimester highlights

Growth accelerates, prenatal visits become more frequent, and birth planning becomes the focus.

Tips for using a pregnancy due date calculator

  • Use the most reliable date you have (LMP, conception, or IVF transfer).
  • Enter dates carefully to avoid month/day mistakes.
  • Treat output as an estimate, not a diagnosis.
  • Confirm dating with your OB-GYN or midwife.

Frequently asked questions

Is my due date exact?

No. Only a small percentage of babies are born exactly on their due date. It is better viewed as the center of a delivery window.

Can this calculator replace medical care?

No. It is educational only. Your healthcare provider should confirm dates and monitor your pregnancy.

What if my period is irregular?

If cycles are irregular, LMP-based estimates can be less precise. Ultrasound dating may be more reliable.
