BMI Calculator (Kilograms & Feet/Inches)
Enter your weight in kilograms and height in feet/inches to estimate your Body Mass Index.
Tip: Inches should usually be between 0 and 11.
What is BMI?
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a quick screening number that compares your weight to your height. It helps estimate whether your body weight is in a lower, healthy, or higher range for your height. This calculator uses the common BMI formula and works with kg + feet/inches input.
How this kg and feet BMI calculator works
Because BMI is calculated in metric units, your height is first converted from feet/inches to meters:
- 1 foot = 12 inches
- 1 inch = 0.0254 meters
- BMI = weight (kg) / height² (m²)
Example: if you are 70 kg and 5 feet 9 inches tall, the calculator converts height to meters and then computes your BMI automatically.
BMI categories (adults)
- Below 18.5: Underweight
- 18.5 to 24.9: Healthy weight
- 25.0 to 29.9: Overweight
- 30.0 to 34.9: Obesity (Class I)
- 35.0 to 39.9: Obesity (Class II)
- 40 or higher: Obesity (Class III)
How to use your result wisely
1) Treat BMI as a screening tool
BMI is useful for quick checks and population health trends, but it does not measure body fat directly. Athletes and highly muscular individuals may have a high BMI while still being healthy.
2) Combine BMI with other health markers
For a clearer picture, also look at waist size, blood pressure, blood sugar, physical activity, sleep quality, and energy levels.
3) Focus on sustainable habits
If your BMI is outside the healthy range, gradual changes are usually best:
- Eat balanced meals with enough protein, fiber, and micronutrients.
- Exercise consistently (cardio + strength training).
- Sleep 7–9 hours most nights.
- Track progress monthly, not daily.
Healthy weight range for your height
This calculator also estimates a suggested weight range based on BMI 18.5 to 24.9. That range can be useful for goal-setting, but your ideal weight can vary based on age, body composition, medical conditions, and fitness goals.
Important limitations
BMI is not a diagnosis. It should not replace medical guidance, especially for:
- Children and teenagers
- Pregnant individuals
- Older adults with low muscle mass
- Athletes with high lean mass
If you are concerned about your result, consult a doctor or registered dietitian for personalized advice.
