How this Bocconi GPA calculator works
Bocconi students are typically evaluated on a 30-point grading scale, where 18 is the passing threshold and 30 is the top numeric grade (sometimes with lode). Most students track performance through the weighted average rather than a US-style GPA.
This calculator helps you do three things quickly:
- Compute your weighted average based on grade and credits.
- Estimate an equivalent 4.0 GPA using a linear conversion.
- Project an approximate score on the 110-point graduation scale.
Bocconi grading basics (quick refresher)
1) Grades are weighted by credits
Not every course has the same impact on your final academic average. A 12-credit course counts more than a 6-credit course. That is why weighted average is essential.
2) Passing threshold is 18/30
In most cases, grades below 18 are considered non-passing and are not counted as completed exams. This calculator gives you a toggle to exclude those grades automatically.
3) 30 e lode handling varies
Some calculations treat lode like 30; others model it slightly above 30 (for planning). You can switch between both approaches in the dropdown.
Formula used in this calculator
The weighted average (media ponderata) is calculated as:
Weighted Average = Σ(Grade × Credits) / Σ(Credits)
Estimated 4.0 GPA is calculated with a simple linear approximation:
Estimated GPA = ((Average - 18) / 12) × 4 (clamped between 0 and 4)
Approximate 110-scale projection:
Projected Score = (Average / 30) × 110

Strategic tips to improve your Bocconi average
Prioritize high-credit courses
Because credits act as multipliers, improving by even one point in a large-credit exam can shift your weighted average more than several small courses combined.
Use scenario planning before exam sessions
Try adding forecast grades (for example, 26, 28, 30) to upcoming courses and compare outcomes. This helps you decide where to invest extra study effort.
Track trend, not only current number
A rising average over the last two semesters can be just as important as a static final value, especially for applications where committees read transcripts holistically.
Important note about official conversions
There is no universal, officially binding conversion from Bocconi grades to US GPA in every context. Universities, scholarship offices, and employers may each apply their own method. Use this calculator for planning, then confirm the exact policy required by your target institution.
FAQ
Does this calculator include thesis points?
No. It focuses on exam-based weighted average. Thesis, bonus points, and graduation committee adjustments are usually separate.
Should I include failed exams?
For most planning use-cases, no. Keep the “exclude grades below 18” option enabled. If you need a different internal simulation, disable it.
Can I use this for master’s or bachelor’s at Bocconi?
Yes, as a planning tool for any program using grade/credit weighted logic. Always align with your specific degree regulations.
