Spain Gross to Net Salary Calculator

Estimate your net salary in Spain from your gross income, Social Security, and IRPF withholding.

€0.00 / month

€0.00 / year

This is an estimate using common Social Security rates and progressive IRPF brackets. Payroll, region, family situation, disability status, and benefits may change your real payslip.

What does “bruto” vs “netto” mean in Spain?

In Spanish payroll, bruto means gross salary before deductions, and neto (often written netto in searches) is what you actually receive in your bank account. The difference comes mainly from Social Security contributions and IRPF (income tax withholding).

If you are comparing job offers in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, or anywhere in Spain, always convert gross to net before deciding. Two offers with the same annual bruto can lead to different monthly net salary depending on your contract type, number of payments (12 or 14), and tax profile.

    How gross-to-net is calculated

    1) Employee Social Security contribution

Most employees in Spain contribute roughly:

    • 6.35% for indefinite contracts
    • 6.40% for temporary contracts

This amount is withheld from your gross salary and goes to Spain’s social protection system.

    2) IRPF withholding (income tax)

IRPF is progressive: higher taxable income is taxed at higher rates. To estimate taxable income, this page subtracts Social Security and a personal allowance from annual gross salary, then applies progressive tax brackets.

    3) Net annual and net monthly salary

After deductions, you get your estimated net annual salary. Dividing it by 12 or 14 gives your expected net per payslip.

How to use this bruto netto calculator for Spain

    • Enter your gross salary (annual or monthly).
    • Select 12 or 14 payments (very common in Spain).
    • Pick contract type to set employee Social Security rate.
    • Adjust personal allowance if needed.
    • Apply a small regional IRPF adjustment if you want to simulate local variation.

Why your real payslip may differ

No online calculator can perfectly replace a payroll engine. Your final net salary can change due to:

    • Autonomous community tax differences
    • Family status (married, children, dependents)
    • Disability deductions and other legal reductions
    • Bonuses, variable pay, stock compensation, and in-kind benefits
    • Mid-year salary changes and irregular payments

    Quick planning tips

Compare offers using annual net, not monthly net alone

Monthly comparisons can be misleading when one company uses 12 payments and another uses 14. Annual net gives a fair apples-to-apples view.

    Check withholding early

If your company withholds too little IRPF, you might face a tax payment later. If they withhold too much, your monthly cash flow is lower than necessary.

    Keep a salary buffer

When changing jobs, keep 2–3 months of expenses available until your first full salary cycle is stable.
