GST Calculator
Use this tool to add GST to a base amount or remove GST from an inclusive total.
What is a GST calculator?
A GST calculator is a quick utility that helps you compute Goods and Services Tax accurately in seconds. Whether you are a freelancer, shop owner, accountant, student, or buyer, this tool removes guesswork when generating bills or checking invoice totals.
The calculator on this page supports two common needs:
- Add GST: when your amount is before tax and you want the final payable total.
- Remove GST: when your amount already includes tax and you want the base value plus tax split.
How to use this calculate GST calculator
Step-by-step
- Enter your amount in the amount field.
- Select a GST rate such as 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28% (or use a custom rate).
- Choose Add GST or Remove GST based on your use case.
- Click Calculate GST to view taxable value, tax amount, and total.
The result area updates instantly and displays a clear summary so you can copy values into your bill, invoice, or accounting software.
GST calculation formulas
1) Add GST (exclusive amount)
GST Amount = Base Amount × (GST Rate ÷ 100)
Total Amount = Base Amount + GST Amount
2) Remove GST (inclusive amount)
Taxable Amount = Inclusive Amount ÷ (1 + GST Rate ÷ 100)
GST Amount = Inclusive Amount − Taxable Amount
Worked examples
Example A: Add GST at 18%
If your product price is 1,000 and GST is 18%, GST is 180 and total invoice value is 1,180.
Example B: Remove GST at 18%
If your invoice total is 1,180 and this includes 18% GST, taxable amount is 1,000 and GST is 180.

Tips for businesses and freelancers
Keep invoice structure consistent
Show taxable amount, GST rate, GST amount, and final total in every invoice. A consistent format reduces disputes and simplifies month-end reconciliation.
Recheck inclusive pricing
When marketplaces or POS systems store product prices as “tax inclusive,” always use the remove-GST mode to identify the correct base value before accounting entries.
Use custom rates carefully
Custom rates are useful for edge cases, but make sure they match current regulations and category-specific rules.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this calculator for both purchases and sales?
Yes. It works for any transaction where you need GST-inclusive or GST-exclusive values.

Is rounding important?
Yes. Most billing systems round to two decimals. This calculator follows two-decimal formatting for readability.
