Canna Potency & Cost Calculator
Estimate total THC, potency per serving, and cost efficiency for infused recipes.
What this canna calculator does
This canna calculator helps you estimate potency for infused oils, butter, baked goods, and other homemade edible recipes. Instead of guessing, you can quickly estimate:
- Total theoretical THC in your starting material
- Estimated available THC after decarb and infusion losses
- Approximate THC per serving
- Estimated cost per serving and cost per 10 mg THC
How the math works
1) Total theoretical THC
The calculator starts with the weight of cannabis and THC percentage from the label:
Theoretical THC (mg) = grams × 1000 × THC%
Example: 7 g at 20% THC gives 1400 mg theoretical THC.
2) Efficiency adjustment
Not all THC ends up in your final edible. Some is lost during decarb, transfer, filtering, or heat exposure. We estimate this using two factors:
- Decarb efficiency (how effective activation is)
- Infusion efficiency (how much makes it into fat/solvent)
Estimated available THC = theoretical THC × decarb × infusion
3) Per-serving potency
Once available THC is estimated, divide by total servings:
THC per serving = available THC / number of servings
This is the number most people use to plan safe, repeatable dosing.
Practical dosing guidance
Everyone responds differently to edible THC. Start low and wait before increasing.
- 1–2.5 mg: very light
- 2.5–5 mg: low
- 5–10 mg: moderate
- 10–20 mg: strong
- 20+ mg: very strong for many people
Effects from edibles can take 30–120 minutes or longer. Avoid re-dosing too soon.
Why cost tracking matters
Potency is one side of the equation; value is the other. If you include your cannabis and ingredient costs, this calculator can estimate:
- Batch cost
- Cost per serving
- Cost per 10 mg THC equivalent
That makes it easier to compare homemade infusions with retail edibles.
Limitations and accuracy notes
This is an estimate tool, not a lab test. Real potency varies due to:
- Variation in flower/cultivar batches
- Inexact label percentages
- Temperature control during decarb/infusion
- Uneven mixing in the final recipe
For better consistency, stir thoroughly, portion carefully, and record your process each time.
Responsible use reminder
Use only where legal, keep products away from children and pets, clearly label infused food, and avoid driving or operating machinery after consumption. If you are new to edibles, begin with a low amount and wait.
