A cement mix ratio defines how much cement, sand, and coarse aggregate are combined to produce concrete. A common format is 1:2:4, meaning:

- 2 parts sand (fine aggregate)
- 4 parts coarse aggregate

How this calculator works
The calculator starts with your required wet concrete volume (for example, 1 m³). It then applies a dry volume factor (typically 1.52 to 1.57; default 1.54) to account for voids, bulking, and wastage. After that, each material quantity is split according to your input ratio.
Calculation steps
- Dry volume = Wet volume × Dry volume factor
- Total ratio parts = Cement + Sand + Aggregate
- Cement volume = Dry volume × (Cement part / Total parts)
- Sand volume = Dry volume × (Sand part / Total parts)
- Aggregate volume = Dry volume × (Aggregate part / Total parts)
- Cement mass is computed using cement density (approx. 1440 kg/m³)
- Water is estimated using the selected water-cement ratio
Common concrete ratios and typical uses
1:2:4 mix
Widely used for reinforced cement concrete in general residential work, where moderate strength is required.
1:1.5:3 mix
A richer mix used where higher strength and better compaction are needed.
1:3:6 mix
A lean concrete mix generally used for non-structural layers and simple base work.
1:4:8 mix
Often used for leveling, blinding, and low-strength foundational filling.

Can I use this for plaster or mortar?
This calculator is designed for concrete (cement + sand + aggregate). Mortar and plaster use different ratios and methods, so a dedicated mortar calculator is better.
Why include a dry volume factor?
Because dry ingredients occupy more volume than compacted wet concrete. The factor adjusts your estimate to more realistic on-site quantities.
How accurate is the bag count?
It is an estimate. Actual cement usage depends on compaction, moisture content, mixing method, and waste control.
