Find Your Chinese Zodiac Element
Enter your birth date to calculate your zodiac animal, heavenly stem, and associated element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water).
What is a Chinese horoscope element?
In Chinese astrology, your profile is not only your zodiac animal (Rat, Ox, Tiger, etc.) but also one of the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water. The element comes from the Heavenly Stem cycle, which combines with the 12-animal cycle to form a full 60-year rotation.
That means two people born in the same animal year but in different cycles may have different energetic “flavors.” For example, a Fire Dragon and a Water Dragon share Dragon qualities, but their styles and tendencies are different.
How this calculator works
- Step 1: Determine your astrology year from your birth date.
- Step 2: Map that year to one of the 12 zodiac animals.
- Step 3: Map that same year to one of the 10 Heavenly Stems.
- Step 4: Convert the stem into element + yin/yang polarity.
Because Lunar New Year does not fall on the same Gregorian date every year, this version uses a practical approximation (Feb 4 / Li Chun) and includes a manual override for people born near New Year.
The Five Elements at a glance
Wood
Growth, creativity, expansion, learning, and momentum. Wood personalities are often progressive and purpose-driven.
Fire
Passion, visibility, confidence, and expression. Fire energy tends to be bold, warm, and socially dynamic.
Earth
Stability, practicality, caregiving, and reliability. Earth is grounded and focused on long-term support.
Metal
Precision, discipline, values, and structure. Metal types often emphasize excellence and order.
Water
Wisdom, adaptability, communication, and intuition. Water energy can be strategic, reflective, and fluid.

Frequently asked questions
Is this calculator accurate?
It is accurate for the core stem/branch math and zodiac mapping. For birthdays close to Lunar New Year, use the manual override if you know you were born before New Year in that year.
Why is my result different from another website?
Different tools use different year boundaries: some use Lunar New Year dates, others use Li Chun (around Feb 4). This can change results for people born in January and early February.
Can this predict my future?
Chinese astrology is best used as a symbolic self-awareness framework rather than a strict prediction engine. Think of it as a mirror, not a sentence.
