Use this calculator to estimate your Chinese zodiac year, month, day, and hour animals from a birth date and time. It is designed for people exploring Chinese astrology, Four Pillars (BaZi), and personality symbolism.
Note: This tool uses the solar-term approach for month signs and a standard cyclical day/hour model. It is excellent for learning and self-study.
What this calculator gives you
After you enter a date and time, the tool returns four zodiac animals:
- Year animal — broad life themes and generational style
- Month animal — early environment and work style
- Day animal — inner nature and personal tendencies
- Hour animal — instincts, ambitions, and private expression
How the calculation works
1) Year animal
The year sign cycles every 12 years: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. If you choose the Li Chun rule, the zodiac year changes around February 4 instead of January 1.
2) Month animal
The month sign is based on traditional solar-term ranges often used in BaZi-style analysis:
- Tiger starts near Feb 4
- Rabbit near Mar 6
- Dragon near Apr 5
- Snake near May 6
- Horse near Jun 6
- Goat near Jul 7
- Monkey near Aug 8
- Rooster near Sep 8
- Dog near Oct 8
- Pig near Nov 7
- Rat near Dec 7
- Ox near Jan 6
3) Day and hour animals
Day signs rotate every day in a 12-day cycle. Hour signs rotate every 2 hours:
- 23:00–00:59 Rat
- 01:00–02:59 Ox
- 03:00–04:59 Tiger
- 05:00–06:59 Rabbit
- 07:00–08:59 Dragon
- 09:00–10:59 Snake
- 11:00–12:59 Horse
- 13:00–14:59 Goat
- 15:00–16:59 Monkey
- 17:00–18:59 Rooster
- 19:00–20:59 Dog
