conceivement date calculator

Use this conceivement date calculator to estimate when conception most likely occurred. Choose the method that matches the information you have.

Conception is estimated as 266 days before due date.
Ovulation is approximated as cycle length minus 14 days.

How this conceivement date calculator works

Pregnancy timing is usually tracked by gestational age, which starts on the first day of your last menstrual period, not the day of conception. Because ovulation and fertilization usually occur around two weeks later, conception is generally estimated by subtracting those two weeks from gestational age.

This calculator gives a practical estimate of conception based on one of three common clinical reference points: due date, LMP, or ultrasound gestational age. It also provides a likely fertile window around the estimate.

Three ways to estimate conception date

1) From estimated due date

If you have an expected due date, conception is estimated as 266 days (38 weeks) earlier. This method is common and simple, especially once a provider has assigned a due date.

2) From last menstrual period (LMP)

When using LMP, the calculator estimates ovulation as:

  • Cycle length − 14 days after the first day of the last period.
  • Conception is then estimated near the ovulation date.

This method is useful when cycles are fairly regular and period dates are known.

3) From ultrasound dating

Early ultrasound is often the best way to date pregnancy. If you know your gestational age on scan day, conception is estimated by subtracting (gestational age − 14 days) from the scan date.

How accurate is an estimated conception date?

A conception date is typically a range, not a single guaranteed day. Even with good data, timing can shift because of natural biological variation.

  • Ovulation can occur earlier or later than expected.
  • Sperm can survive in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days.
  • Fertilization and implantation are separate events.
  • Due dates and cycle assumptions are estimates, not exact markers.

Conception vs. implantation

Conception usually refers to fertilization. Implantation happens later, often about 6 to 10 days after fertilization. If you are tracking symptoms or early testing timelines, this distinction matters. A pregnancy test becomes positive only after implantation and rising hCG levels.

When to talk with your healthcare provider

Use online calculators for planning and education, but ask your provider for personalized dating if:

  • Your periods are irregular or unpredictable.
  • You are unsure of your LMP date.
  • There are multiple possible conception dates.
  • You need records for medical, legal, or clinical reasons.

Quick FAQ

Can this tool tell the exact day I conceived?

No. It estimates a most likely date and nearby fertile window.

Which method is usually most reliable?

In early pregnancy, first-trimester ultrasound dating is often the most accurate method clinically.

Why does cycle length matter?

People with cycles shorter or longer than 28 days often ovulate on different days, which changes the estimated conception date.
