How the Calculation Works

1) Convert wet volume to dry volume

Concrete ingredients are usually estimated in dry volume. Since mixing and compaction reduce volume, we multiply wet concrete volume by a dry volume factor (commonly 1.54).

  • Dry volume = Wet volume × Dry volume factor

2) Split dry volume by mix ratio parts

If your ratio is 1:2:4, total parts are 7. Cement gets 1/7 of dry volume, sand gets 2/7, and aggregate gets 4/7.

  • Cement volume = Dry volume × (cement part / total parts)
  • Sand volume = Dry volume × (sand part / total parts)
  • Aggregate volume = Dry volume × (aggregate part / total parts)

3) Convert cement volume to weight and bags

Cement is usually purchased by bag, so the calculator converts cement volume into kilograms using cement density, then into bag count using bag weight.

  • Cement weight (kg) = Cement volume × Cement density
  • Bags = Cement weight / Bag weight

4) Estimate water

Water demand is estimated using water-cement ratio. A ratio of 0.50 means 0.50 kg of water per 1 kg of cement (about the same number in liters).

  • 1:2:4 – General-purpose work such as small slabs and walkways.
  • 1:1.5:3 – Stronger nominal mix, often used for structural elements in small projects.
  • 1:1:2 – Rich mix for high-strength requirements in limited applications.
