What Is a Dasha Calculator?

A dasha calculator is a timing tool used in Vedic astrology to map major life periods. The most widely used system is Vimshottari Dasha, a 120-year cycle divided among nine planetary rulers (Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury).

Each person starts life at a different point in this cycle depending on the Moon’s exact position in the birth chart. That is why a correct Moon longitude is essential for accurate dasha timing.

How This Calculator Works

1) Moon Nakshatra Identification

The zodiac is divided into 27 nakshatras, each spanning 13°20'. The calculator determines your birth nakshatra from the Moon longitude and identifies its ruling dasha lord.

2) Balance of First Mahadasha

You are born partway through the current Mahadasha. The remaining fraction is computed from how far the Moon has progressed inside the nakshatra. That remaining time becomes the opening dasha balance at birth.

3) Forward Timeline

After the first partial period, the sequence continues in standard Vimshottari order with full durations for each planet. The output table includes start date, end date, and age ranges.
