How duplicate bridge scoring works

Duplicate bridge scoring rewards both accurate bidding and card play. Your final score depends on the contract, whether it was doubled or redoubled, vulnerability, and how many tricks were actually taken. This calculator follows standard duplicate scoring rules and gives results for both sides.

1) Trick points for the contract

  • Clubs or Diamonds: 20 points per contracted trick.
  • Hearts or Spades: 30 points per contracted trick.
  • No Trump: 40 for the first contracted trick, then 30 for each additional trick.
  • Doubled: contract trick points are doubled.
  • Redoubled: contract trick points are quadrupled.

2) Bonuses when the contract makes

  • Part-score bonus: 50 if contract trick points are under 100.
  • Game bonus: 300 non-vulnerable or 500 vulnerable when contract trick points are 100 or more.
  • Small slam (level 6): +500 non-vulnerable or +750 vulnerable.
  • Grand slam (level 7): +1000 non-vulnerable or +1500 vulnerable.
  • Insult bonus: +50 for making a doubled contract, +100 for making a redoubled contract.

3) Overtricks

Overtricks are scored separately from the contracted tricks:

  • Undoubled: 20 each in minors, 30 each in majors and NT.
  • Doubled: 100 each non-vulnerable, 200 each vulnerable.
  • Redoubled: 200 each non-vulnerable, 400 each vulnerable.

4) Undertrick penalties

If declarer goes down, the score is negative for declarer and positive for defenders.

  • Undoubled: 50 each non-vulnerable, 100 each vulnerable.
  • Doubled non-vulnerable: 100, then 200, 200, then 300 each after that.
  • Doubled vulnerable: 200 first, then 300 each additional.
  • Redoubled: exactly double the doubled penalties.
