What Is E = mc2?
The equation E = mc2 comes from Albert Einstein's theory of special relativity. It says that mass and energy are two forms of the same thing. Even a tiny amount of mass corresponds to a very large amount of energy, because c (the speed of light) is enormous and gets squared.
In plain terms: if mass could be converted completely into energy, the energy output would be huge. This is why nuclear processes release so much energy compared with chemical reactions.
