EANM Pediatric Activity Calculator
Use this calculator to estimate administered activity with the common EANM weight-multiplier method:
Then apply your protocol minimum/maximum limits.
For educational workflow support only. Always verify against the latest EANM card, radiopharmacy constraints, and institutional policy.
How this EANM dosage calculator works
The EANM pediatric approach commonly starts with a baseline activity for a given radiopharmaceutical, then multiplies that value by a weight-dependent factor. This page automates that process so you can quickly estimate activity in MBq (and mCi), then clamp the result to your protocol’s minimum and maximum limits.
Inputs you need
- Patient weight (kg): Used to obtain the multiplier.
- Baseline activity (MBq): Taken from your approved protocol or EANM table.
- Minimum and maximum limits: Prevent underdosing or exceeding protocol caps.
- Rounding step: Helps match syringe preparation and practical dispensing workflow.
Practical calculation flow
- Find the child’s weight.
- Determine the weight multiplier (this tool interpolates between standard table points).
- Multiply baseline × multiplier to get the raw activity.
- Apply min/max limits.
- Optionally round to the nearest practical MBq value.
Example
If a patient weighs 20 kg and your baseline is 25 MBq, the multiplier is approximately 4.86. Raw activity is 25 × 4.86 = 121.5 MBq. If your protocol limits are 14 to 370 MBq, no cap is needed. Rounding to nearest 5 MBq yields 120 MBq.
Why min/max limits matter
In pediatric nuclear medicine, the final administered activity is not just a pure mathematical output. Clinical image quality, scanner sensitivity, acquisition time, and radiopharmaceutical handling constraints all matter. Minimum limits can avoid non-diagnostic studies; maximum limits support radiation optimization.
Implementation notes for departments
- Store approved baseline/min/max values in your local SOP for each radiopharmaceutical.
- Validate rounding rules with radiopharmacy and scanner protocol owners.
- Audit periodically to ensure tool outputs match policy updates.
- Document any protocol deviations and clinical justifications.
FAQ
Is this an official EANM tool?
No. It is an independent calculator interface designed to support workflow and education.
Can I use this for adult dosing?
This page is tuned for pediatric multiplier logic. Adult protocols should follow your institution’s dedicated adult guidance.
Do I enter MBq or mCi?
Enter MBq. The result also shows mCi conversion (1 mCi = 37 MBq).
