Ender Portal Calculator
Enter what you already have, and this tool will calculate exactly how many Eyes of Ender, Ender Pearls, and Blaze Rods you still need.
What this Ender Portal Calculator does
In Minecraft, activating an End Portal can burn through resources quickly if you do not plan ahead. This calculator helps you estimate exactly what you still need before entering The End, based on your current inventory and the number of portal frames already filled in the stronghold.
Instead of guessing, you can prepare efficiently and avoid extra trips for blaze rods or ender pearls.
How End Portal activation works
An End Portal has 12 frame blocks. Every frame must contain an Eye of Ender for the portal to activate. If some are already filled, you only need to supply the missing eyes.
- Total frames in portal: 12
- Eyes consumed on activation: 12 minus pre-filled frames
- Each Eye of Ender recipe: 1 ender pearl + 1 blaze powder
Core formula used in this tool
- Missing Eyes = 12 - Filled Frames
- Total Eyes Needed = Missing Eyes + Reserve Eyes
- Extra Ender Pearls Needed = max(Total Eyes Needed - Pearls Owned, 0)
- Extra Blaze Powder Needed = max(Total Eyes Needed - Powder Owned, 0)
- Blaze Rods to Farm = ceil(Extra Blaze Powder Needed / 2)
Example
Suppose you find a portal with 2 eyes already filled and want to carry 4 extra eyes. You currently have 7 pearls and 3 blaze powder.
- Missing eyes for portal: 10
- Total needed including reserve: 14
- Extra pearls required: 7
- Extra blaze powder required: 11
- Minimum blaze rods to farm: 6
That gives you enough to activate the portal and keep backup eyes for travel mistakes.
Java vs Bedrock note
Portal frame generation can vary by edition and version. Java portals can spawn with some eyes already in place, while Bedrock behavior can differ by seed and world generation quirks. This calculator stays simple: just enter the number you actually see in your world, and you will get exact crafting requirements.

FAQ
How many eyes should I bring in total?
Most players bring enough to fill the portal plus 2 to 6 spare eyes. Speedrunners may bring fewer; survival players usually bring more for safety.
Do I always need blaze rods?
You need blaze powder for every Eye of Ender. Since each blaze rod makes two powder, farming rods is the most efficient way to craft eyes in bulk.
Can this calculator be used mid-run?
Yes. Open the page after reaching the stronghold, count pre-filled frames, enter your inventory, and calculate instantly.
