Estimate Your Erasmus+ Grant

Use this calculator to estimate monthly support, travel support, and common top-ups for Erasmus+ student mobility. Values are examples in EUR and your university's final funding decision may differ.

What this Erasmus grant calculator does

This calculator gives you a practical estimate of an Erasmus+ mobility grant before you submit your final paperwork. It combines three common funding blocks: monthly individual support, travel support based on distance, and optional top-ups (such as traineeship support or fewer-opportunities support).

It is designed for planning, not for official award letters. Each National Agency and higher education institution can apply different rates, caps, and internal policies, so treat the result as a budgeting guide.

How Erasmus+ funding is usually structured

1) Individual support (monthly or daily)

Most long-term student mobility grants are calculated from a monthly rate linked to the host country group. Countries with higher living costs usually have higher monthly support.

2) Travel support

Travel support is often distance-based. In many cases, students selecting lower-emission travel options can qualify for higher fixed travel support and possibly extra travel days.

3) Inclusion and activity top-ups

  • Traineeship supplement: often added per month to support work placement mobility.
  • Fewer-opportunities support: often a monthly top-up for eligible students.
  • Institutional top-up: optional extra funding from your university or project budget.

How to use the calculator

  1. Select your host country cost group.
  2. Choose your mobility type (study or traineeship).
  3. Enter your total duration in months.
  4. Tick the fewer opportunities option if your case is eligible.
  5. Select your distance band and whether you qualify for green travel.
  6. Add any extra travel days and optional institutional top-up.
  7. Click Calculate Grant to view your breakdown and total estimate.

Example budgeting scenario

Imagine a 5-month traineeship in a Group 2 country. If you are eligible for fewer-opportunities support and travel in the 500–1,999 km band with green travel, your estimate includes:

  • Base monthly support for 5 months
  • Traineeship supplement for 5 months
  • Fewer-opportunities top-up for 5 months
  • Fixed travel support from the distance band
  • Optional extra amount for approved travel days

This helps you compare likely grant income against accommodation, transport, insurance, and food costs before departure.

Tips for more accurate Erasmus financial planning

  • Confirm rates directly with your international office before committing to housing.
  • Plan your first month cash flow; grant instalments can arrive after your mobility starts.
  • Keep documents for boarding passes, rent, and attendance in case of audit checks.
  • Ask about special needs and inclusion support if relevant to your case.
  • Track exchange rates if your home expenses are in a different currency.

Important note

This page is an independent estimator. Official Erasmus+ grant calculations are determined by your sending institution, your inter-institutional agreement, and your National Agency rules for the relevant call year.
