Feebas Tile Search Calculator

Estimate your odds of finding Feebas by checking a number of tiles and making multiple casts per tile.

What this Feebas tile calculator does

Feebas hunting can be frustrating because only a small number of water tiles are “active” at a time. This calculator helps you plan your route by estimating the chance that you will encounter Feebas after checking a specific number of unique tiles and making a set number of casts per tile.

Instead of guessing, you can answer practical questions like:

  • “If I check 60 tiles, what are my odds?”
  • “Should I do 1 cast per tile or 3 casts per tile?”
  • “How many tiles do I need for a 90% chance?”

How the model works

1) Tile selection odds

The game effectively hides Feebas on a fixed number of tiles in the current map (for example, 6 tiles in Route 119 in many Gen 3 references). When you sample unique tiles, your chance of hitting at least one Feebas tile follows a hypergeometric distribution (sampling without replacement).

2) Casting odds on a correct tile

Even if you are on a Feebas tile, Feebas is not guaranteed every cast. The calculator includes an encounter rate per cast (default 50%). Multiple casts on the same tile reduce the chance of missing that tile due to bad luck.

3) Combined success probability

The final success chance combines both effects: finding at least one valid tile and then successfully rolling a Feebas encounter from your casts.

How to use it effectively

  • Use a preset first: start with your game generation map defaults.
  • Set unique tiles checked: count only new tiles, not repeats.
  • Adjust casts per tile: 2–4 casts often balances speed and reliability.
  • Set a target: use 80%, 90%, or 95% depending on your patience.

Strategy tips for faster Feebas hunts

Cover ground before over-fishing

One common mistake is spending too many casts on a non-Feebas tile. Usually, broad tile coverage gives bigger gains early, then extra casts per tile become more valuable later.

Use a consistent sweep pattern

Move in a simple route so you don’t lose track of checked spots. A left-to-right sweep, then one row down, works well and prevents accidental repeats.

Know when to reset

If your calculated odds become high and you still miss, your assumptions may be off (wrong tile count, changed daily seed mechanics, or inaccurate map subset). Reset your route and verify game-specific rules.

Important assumptions

This tool is a planning calculator, not a direct PRNG tile predictor. Different games, versions, and events can alter exact Feebas behavior. Use this as a strong probability guide for route planning and time budgeting, especially for Pokémon Emerald Feebas tile searches and similar hunts.
