FFXIV Gear Power Calculator
Enter your current stats to estimate a weighted gear power score, expected GCD speed, and baseline performance gain.
If you're trying to optimize your Final Fantasy XIV character, comparing gear sets by item level alone is not enough. Substats like Critical Hit, Direct Hit, and Speed often decide whether one set actually performs better in raids, trials, and savage progression. This FFXIV gear calculator gives you a practical way to quickly estimate relative combat value before you commit tomestones, materia, or raid books.
What this FFXIV gear calculator does
This tool combines your core offensive stats into a single Gear Power Score. It also shows expected global cooldown speed and a baseline comparison for your selected level. While this does not replace full simulation or job-specific rotation tools, it gives you a fast and useful first pass when comparing multiple gear options.
- Calculates a weighted score from weapon damage, main stat, and secondary stats.
- Estimates expected critical/direct hit contribution.
- Approximates GCD speed impact from Skill Speed or Spell Speed.
- Provides baseline percentage gain to help you judge upgrades quickly.
How secondary stats influence your damage
Critical Hit
Critical Hit increases both your chance to crit and your crit damage modifier. In most endgame sets, Crit remains one of the most desirable scaling stats because it double-dips in this way.
Direct Hit
Direct Hit increases the chance your attacks deal extra damage (fixed bonus when it procs). It is often very efficient for DPS roles, though exact value depends on job kit and party buffs.
Determination
Determination is a stable multiplier that boosts overall damage and healing output. It usually has lower volatility than Crit and Direct Hit, making it a reliable stat for broad consistency.
Skill Speed / Spell Speed
Speed stats reduce your GCD and alter DoT/HoT tick behavior. Depending on the job, this can be either a strong breakpoint stat or a lower-priority filler. The calculator estimates how your Speed changes GCD pace so you can quickly spot major rotational shifts.
Tenacity
Tenacity is relevant primarily for tanks, improving both damage and mitigation. This calculator applies Tenacity only when Tank role is selected.
How to use this calculator effectively
- Choose your level and role first.
- Copy your current stats from your character sheet or gear planner.
- Calculate once for your current set, then again for candidate upgrades.
- Compare Gear Power Score and Baseline Gain values.
- Use the result as a shortlist signal before final meld and food decisions.
Practical gearing workflow for raids
Step 1: Lock your weapon path
Weapon damage is usually the largest single contributor to damage scaling. Prioritize weapon progression before micro-optimizing substats.
Step 2: Check rotational comfort
If a set gives slightly higher score but pushes your GCD into an awkward timing window, your real encounter output may drop. Always test your opener and burst loop at the resulting speed tier.
Step 3: Meld by expected value, then encounter needs
Materia choices can shift based on fight design. For example, high movement encounters may reduce practical value of certain speed tiers. Use the calculator for quick EV checks, then validate in logs or training dummy tests.
Common mistakes players make when evaluating gear
- Overvaluing item level while ignoring stat distribution.
- Ignoring speed breakpoints and drifting burst windows.
- Treating one role's stat priority as universal across all jobs.
- Skipping baseline comparisons and looking only at raw stat totals.
- Not testing food and potion interactions with final melds.
Important note on accuracy
This calculator is intentionally lightweight and transparent. It provides a strong directional estimate for quick planning, but it is not a replacement for deep encounter simulation, full potency timeline modeling, or job-specific optimization spreadsheets. Use it as a fast decision support tool.
