GPA to CGPA Calculator
Convert your GPA from one grading scale to another in seconds. Default conversion is from a 4.0 GPA scale to a 10.0 CGPA scale.
Formula used: CGPA = (GPA / GPA Scale) × CGPA Scale
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?
GPA (Grade Point Average) usually represents your performance for a specific term, semester, or academic period. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) reflects your overall performance across multiple semesters or your full program. In many conversations, students also use “GPA to CGPA” when they mean converting one grading scale to another, such as from a 4-point to a 10-point system.
GPA to CGPA conversion formula
The most common method is scale normalization. You first convert your GPA into a percentage of its current scale, then map it to the target scale.
Standard formula
CGPA = (GPA ÷ Current Scale) × Target Scale
For example, if your GPA is 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, your CGPA on a 10.0 scale is:
(3.2 ÷ 4.0) × 10 = 8.00

Important notes for students
1) University-specific rules may vary
Some institutions use their own official conversion formula. If you are applying for admissions, scholarships, or credential evaluations, always verify the exact conversion policy on the institution’s official website.
2) GPA vs cumulative GPA
If you are trying to calculate cumulative performance across semesters, you may need credit-weighted averages rather than simple scale conversion. This tool converts scale values; it does not automatically combine multiple semester GPAs with different credit loads.
3) Rounding conventions
Different schools round to 2 or 3 decimals. This calculator shows a rounded result for quick interpretation, but official transcripts may display slightly different formatting.
Frequently asked questions
Is CGPA always out of 10?
No. CGPA can be reported on different scales. This calculator supports any positive scale so you can convert between common systems like 4.0, 5.0, 7.0, and 10.0.
Can I convert 10-point CGPA back to 4-point GPA?
Yes. Swap the scales: set current scale to 10 and target scale to 4. The same formula applies in reverse.
Does this calculator give an official equivalency?
It gives a mathematically normalized estimate. For official purposes, follow the guidelines of the university, employer, or evaluating agency.
