Spain Gross to Net Salary Calculator
Estimate your annual and monthly net salary in Spain from your gross salary, with IRPF and Seguridad Social deductions.
This tool provides an estimate for informational purposes only. Final payroll amounts depend on your exact tax profile, withholdings, benefits, and legal updates.
How this gross to net salary calculator for Spain works
If you are job hunting, negotiating compensation, or planning relocation, the key question is always the same: How much will I actually take home? In Spain, your gross salary (salario bruto) is not equal to your net salary (salario neto).
This calculator estimates your take-home pay by applying two major deductions:
- Employee Social Security contributions (Seguridad Social), and
- IRPF withholding (personal income tax).
Main deductions in Spain payroll
1) Seguridad Social (employee contribution)
Employees in Spain contribute a percentage of salary to Social Security. Typical payroll concepts include common contingencies, unemployment, professional training, and the intergenerational equity mechanism.
In this calculator, contribution rates are estimated based on contract type and a capped contribution base. This is why high incomes may not increase Social Security deductions linearly forever.
2) IRPF (income tax withholding)
IRPF uses progressive tax brackets: as income increases, additional portions of taxable income are taxed at higher rates. The calculator uses a commonly referenced national bracket structure and a regional adjustment factor to reflect differences among communities.
Keep in mind that payroll withholding is an estimate of your yearly final tax. Your annual tax return may produce a refund or extra payment depending on your full personal situation.
3) Personal and family allowances
Spain grants personal minimum allowances that can reduce taxable income, including adjustments for age and dependent children. This is why two workers with the same gross salary can have different net pay.
Gross salary in 12 or 14 payments: what changes?
Many Spanish contracts pay in 14 installments (12 regular months + 2 extra payments), while others are prorated into 12 installments. Your annual gross salary may be the same in both cases, but each paycheck amount changes:
- 12 payments: higher monthly amount.
- 14 payments: lower regular monthly amount plus extra summer/Christmas pay.
The calculator shows your net per payment based on your selected salary structure.
Example use cases
Comparing two offers
Offer A: €32,000 gross in 14 payments. Offer B: €34,000 gross in 12 payments. Use the tool to compare annual net and per-paycheck net, not just gross totals.
Negotiating a raise
If you ask for a €3,000 gross increase, your net gain will be lower after contributions and tax. This calculator helps you estimate realistic take-home improvements.
Relocation planning
Moving to Spain from abroad? Convert gross salary proposals into net monthly cash flow before signing a contract, then build your rent, transport, and savings plan from the net figure.
Important notes
- This is a practical estimator, not an official payroll engine.
- Real payroll can include bonuses, in-kind compensation, union fees, disability adjustments, and other factors.
- Legal rates and tax rules can change yearly.
FAQ: Spain salary neto/bruto
Is this calculator accurate for all workers?
It is accurate as a planning estimate for many standard employment cases, but not a replacement for official payroll or tax advice.
Why is my net salary lower than expected?
Most differences come from IRPF withholding percentage, contract details, extra payments, regional tax differences, and personal/family tax data given to your employer.
Can I use this for freelancers (autónomos)?
No. Autónomos follow different Social Security and tax mechanisms. This page is focused on employee payroll scenarios.
