Men's Height Percentile Calculator
Enter your height and choose a reference group to estimate your percentile rank.
What this calculator tells you
A height percentile compares your height with a reference population of adult men. If your result is in the 75th percentile, that means you are taller than about 75 out of 100 men in that group. If you are in the 25th percentile, you are taller than about 25 out of 100 men.
This tool is designed for adult men. It uses a normal-distribution model with a selected mean and standard deviation to estimate your rank quickly.
How the percentile is calculated
Step 1: Convert to centimeters
If you enter inches, the calculator converts your value to centimeters (1 inch = 2.54 cm), so all comparisons use the same unit.
Step 2: Compute your z-score
The z-score shows how far your height is from the average:
z = (your height − mean height) / standard deviation
Step 3: Convert z-score to percentile
The z-score is transformed into a percentile using the cumulative normal distribution. This gives your estimated position within the selected reference group.
Quick interpretation guide
- Below 10th percentile: shorter than most men in the selected population.
- 10th to 40th percentile: somewhat below average, but still common.
- 40th to 60th percentile: around average range.
- 60th to 90th percentile: taller than average.
- Above 90th percentile: taller than most men in that group.
Example percentile table (global adult men reference)
The table below gives rough percentile estimates using mean 175.3 cm and SD 7.1 cm.
| Height (cm) | Height (ft/in) | Approx. Percentile |
|---|---|---|
| 160 | 5'3" | ~1st |
| 165 | 5'5" | ~7th |
| 170 | 5'7" | ~23rd |
| 175 | 5'9" | ~48th |
| 180 | 5'11" | ~75th |
| 185 | 6'1" | ~91st |
| 190 | 6'3" | ~98th |
Why your percentile can vary
Percentiles depend on the comparison group. A man may rank differently across countries, age bands, or subpopulations. That is why this calculator lets you choose different references.
- National averages differ by genetics, nutrition, and environment.
- Data sources use different sampling methods and year ranges.
- A percentile is relative ranking, not a measure of health or fitness by itself.
Frequently asked questions
Is 6 feet tall for a man above average?
In many populations, yes. In this calculator's global reference, 183 cm (about 6'0") is generally above average and often around the upper quartiles.
Can I use this for teenagers?
Not ideally. Teen growth should be compared with age-specific growth charts. Adult percentile models are not appropriate for children or adolescents.
Does percentile equal attractiveness or success?
No. Percentile only describes where a single body measurement sits within a distribution. It does not determine personal value, confidence, health, or achievement.
