How this holiday part-time calculator works

A part-time employee usually receives holiday leave on a pro-rata basis, meaning your entitlement is scaled from a full-time schedule to your own working pattern. This page helps you quickly calculate:

  • Your annual holiday entitlement in days and hours
  • Your estimated holiday pay value
  • Your accrued holiday based on weeks worked
  • An irregular-hours accrual estimate using a percentage method

Pro-rata holiday formula (fixed weekly schedule)

If your schedule is stable every week, a common method is:

Part-time annual leave (days) = Full-time entitlement × (Part-time days per week ÷ Full-time days per week)

Example: if full-time leave is 28 days, full-time is 5 days/week, and you work 3 days/week:
28 × (3 ÷ 5) = 16.8 days per year.

To estimate the value in money, convert days to hours and multiply by your hourly rate:
Holiday pay = Holiday hours × Hourly pay.

Accrued holiday during the year

If you have not completed a full leave year, many employers track entitlement as it builds over time. This calculator provides a simple estimate:

  • Accrued days (fixed pattern) = annual pro-rata days × (weeks worked ÷ 52)
  • Accrued hours (irregular pattern) = hours worked × accrual percentage

These two figures serve different employment patterns. If your hours vary from week to week, the irregular-hours estimate can be more useful. Always follow your workplace policy first.

What to do if your result seems low or high

First, check your inputs. Most inaccuracies come from mixing up days and hours, or entering calendar weeks instead of weeks worked. Also verify whether your employer includes public holidays inside the annual total. Different contracts handle this differently.

Best practices for part-time holiday planning

  • Track leave in both days and hours for clarity
  • Keep a running total of leave taken after each request is approved
  • Review entitlement whenever your contracted hours change
  • Use accrual estimates if you start mid-year or have variable shifts
  • Confirm legal minimum leave requirements in your country or region

Important note

This holiday part time calculator is for educational and planning use. Actual entitlement can depend on your contract, company policy, collective agreements, and local employment law. For formal payroll decisions, confirm with HR, payroll, or an employment adviser.
