hsr damage calculator

Honkai: Star Rail Damage Calculator

Estimate single-hit damage for ATK-scaling attacks. Includes DEF, RES, crit, and vulnerability effects.

How this HSR damage calculator works

This tool estimates direct hit damage in Honkai: Star Rail using a practical version of the in-game formula. It is designed for quick comparisons between relic builds, Light Cones, support buffs, and team rotations.

You can use it for common build questions like:

  • Is +10% Crit DMG better than +8% ATK for this setup?
  • How much does DEF shred improve my DPS against higher-level enemies?
  • How much expected damage do I gain from increasing Crit Rate consistency?

Damage model used in this calculator

The calculator computes a direct hit using this structure:

Damage = Total ATK × Skill Multiplier × DMG Bonus × DEF Multiplier × RES Multiplier × Vulnerability × DMG Reduction × Other Multipliers

Then it reports three outputs:

  • Non-Crit DMG (normal hit)
  • Crit DMG (single critical hit)
  • Expected DMG (average hit over many attacks based on Crit Rate and Crit DMG)

Input guide

ATK inputs

  • Base ATK: your character + Light Cone base ATK after leveling.
  • ATK% Bonus: total percentage ATK from relics, traces, passives, and buffs.
  • Flat ATK: fixed ATK from substats and external buffs.

Total ATK is calculated as: Base ATK × (1 + ATK%) + Flat ATK.

Scaling and amplification

  • Skill Multiplier (%): talent/skill/ultimate percent value for the hit.
  • DMG Bonus (%): elemental bonus, skill bonus, ult bonus, generic DMG%, etc.
  • Other Final Multiplier (%): flexible slot for effects not represented elsewhere.

Enemy mitigation

  • Enemy Level and Character Level feed the DEF formula.
  • DEF Reduction (%) and DEF Ignore (%) are applied multiplicatively.
  • Enemy RES (%) follows standard HSR RES behavior, including negative RES scaling.
  • Vulnerability (%) increases incoming damage (damage taken up).
  • Enemy DMG Reduction (%) decreases your final damage output.

How to optimize builds with this tool

1) Compare relic swaps quickly

Enter your current stats, calculate expected damage, then swap one stat line at a time (for example +12% ATK vs +16% Crit DMG). This gives a clear, apples-to-apples view of actual impact.

2) Evaluate team support value

Input DEF reduction from debuffers, vulnerability from support units, and DMG bonus from buffers. You can estimate which support contributes more to your carry in practical terms.

3) Balance Crit Rate and Crit DMG

Use Expected DMG as your main comparison metric. A huge Crit DMG number can look good, but if Crit Rate is low, average performance may drop.

Important limitations

This calculator is focused on quick direct-hit estimates. It does not fully model all specialized systems, such as:

  • Break Damage / Super Break specific formulas
  • Damage-over-time snapshots and turn-based sequencing nuances
  • Multi-hit abilities with changing buffs between hits
  • Unique character exceptions or temporary in-combat conversion effects

For advanced theorycrafting, use this as a baseline and then validate with combat logs or simulation tools.

Practical workflow for better decisions

  1. Enter your current build and save the expected damage value.
  2. Change exactly one variable at a time (a relic piece, a planar set, a support buff).
  3. Recalculate and compare percentage change.
  4. Choose upgrades that improve expected damage while preserving speed, energy, and rotation consistency.

If you are tuning a hypercarry team, this method is often enough to catch inefficient stat allocations and significantly improve real performance in Memory of Chaos and Pure Fiction rotations.
