IAAF Combined Events Points Calculator

Calculate points using the official IAAF/World Athletics combined-events scoring formulas for decathlon and heptathlon.

Enter an event and performance, then click Calculate Points.
Input tips:
  • Track events: use seconds (10.55) or m:ss.xx (4:21.30).
  • Jumps: enter meters (7.52, 2.05) or centimeters (752, 205).
  • Throws: enter meters (15.80, 62.10).

What is an IAAF points calculator?

An IAAF points calculator converts a performance into scoring points using the official constants defined for each event. In combined events (decathlon and heptathlon), every result is transformed into points so performances across very different disciplines can be compared on one scale.

This tool is ideal for athletes, coaches, and fans who want to quickly estimate a score after any single event, compare performance scenarios, or plan competition strategy.

Scoring formulas used

Track events (lower time is better)

Points = A × (B − P)C

Here, P is your time in seconds. The closer your time gets to elite marks, the more rapidly points increase.

Field events (greater distance/height is better)

Points = A × (P − B)C

Here, P is your measured mark (meters for throws, centimeters for jumps in the official equations). Points are truncated to whole numbers.

How to use this calculator

  • Select Men's Decathlon or Women's Heptathlon.
  • Choose the specific event.
  • Enter your performance in the expected format.
  • Click Calculate Points to get the event score instantly.

Practical coaching use

Because the formulas are nonlinear, a small improvement in one event can be worth much more (or less) than expected. This makes an IAAF calculator especially helpful for planning training cycles and competition tactics.

  • Test “what-if” scenarios before a meet.
  • Find your highest return-on-effort events.
  • Set realistic points targets for each discipline.
  • Track progress over a season with objective scoring.

Important note

This page calculates combined-events points (decathlon/heptathlon formulas), not World Athletics ranking points, which also include placing and competition category factors. For official championship validation, always compare with federation-approved tools.
