How check digits are calculated
IBAN check digits are not random. They are generated by the international ISO 13616 method:
- Move country code and check digits to the end.
- Replace letters with numbers (
A=10,B=11, ...,Z=35). - Compute modulo 97.
- A valid IBAN always produces remainder 1.
