How import duty works in Pakistan
If you import goods into Pakistan, your final payable amount is usually not just one single tax. Import cost is made up of multiple layers based on customs rules, product classification, and the declared value of your shipment. This is exactly why an import duty calculator Pakistan can save time before you place an international order.
In most cases, the first step is determining the CIF value (Cost + Insurance + Freight). Then customs converts that value into PKR using the applicable exchange rate. After that, taxes are applied using percentages that depend on your product’s HS code and current notifications.
Common components included in import tax estimation
- Customs Duty (CD): Basic import duty applied on assessed customs value.
- Regulatory Duty (RD): Additional duty charged on selected goods.
- Additional Customs Duty (ACD): Another customs layer on some categories.
- Sales Tax / GST: Charged on a customs tax base after duties are added.
- Income Tax / Withholding Tax: Advance tax under import provisions.
How to use this calculator correctly
To get a meaningful estimate, you should enter values as close to your actual import documents as possible:
- Enter item value, freight, and insurance in the same foreign currency.
- Enter the exchange rate used for customs assessment.
- Input duty/tax percentages according to your product’s HS code.
- Click Calculate Duty to see a full breakdown and estimated landed cost.
The result helps you plan pricing, budget cash flow, and compare suppliers before shipment.
Example: quick duty estimate
Suppose you import electronics worth 500 USD, freight 60 USD, insurance 10 USD, with an exchange rate of 280 PKR/USD. If your applicable rates are CD 20%, RD 5%, ACD 2%, GST 18%, and Income Tax 6%, the calculator gives a step-by-step estimate of each tax component and the final payable amount in PKR.
Important note about HS code and legal rates
Rates can change through annual finance acts, SROs, exemptions, and special regimes. Two products with similar names can have different duties if their HS code differs. Always verify rates from official sources such as Pakistan Customs tariff schedules, your customs clearing agent, or tax advisor before commercial decisions.
