How this jacket size calculator works
This calculator gives you a quick estimate for men’s jacket and blazer sizing based on chest measurement, height, and fit preference. It outputs a standard size like 40R where:
- 40 = chest-based jacket size (US/UK style numbering)
- R = Regular length (other options: S, L, XL)
It also shows an approximate EU conversion to make online shopping easier.
What to measure before choosing a jacket
1) Chest circumference (most important)
Wrap a soft tape measure around the fullest part of your chest while standing naturally. Keep the tape flat and parallel to the floor. If you are between sizes, choose based on your preferred fit: size down for slim styling, size up for comfort and layering.
2) Height (for jacket length)
Height helps estimate whether your jacket should be Short, Regular, Long, or Extra Long. Two people can both wear a size 40 chest, but one may need a 40S and the other a 40L depending on torso and arm length.
3) Waist circumference (optional but useful)
Waist helps detect body shape. If your waist is close to your chest size, a roomier cut may be more comfortable. If your drop (chest minus waist) is large, tailored or athletic cuts often look cleaner.

Length code guide (S, R, L, XL)
- S (Short): generally for shorter heights
- R (Regular): the most common default length
- L (Long): for taller frames or longer torso/arms
- XL (Extra Long): for very tall builds
Common sizing mistakes to avoid
- Measuring over a bulky hoodie or thick sweater.
- Pulling the tape too tight around chest or waist.
- Ignoring fit preference (slim vs relaxed makes a visible difference).
- Assuming every brand uses identical patterns—always check brand charts.
Final tip before you buy
Use this tool as a starting point, then compare with the specific retailer’s size chart. If you are between sizes, pick the larger size and tailor down for the cleanest fit. A minor alteration in sleeve or waist can make an affordable jacket look premium.
Note: This calculator provides an estimate and is best suited for men’s blazer/suit jacket sizing. Brand-specific cuts and garment types may vary.
