How This Lagna Calculator Works
This calculator estimates your ascendant in three steps:
- Converts your local birth date/time to UTC using your timezone offset.
- Computes local sidereal time from Julian day and longitude.
- Calculates the ascendant longitude and converts it to a sidereal zodiac value using an approximate Lahiri ayanamsa.
The result includes your sidereal rising sign, degree in sign, nakshatra, and pada, plus the tropical ascendant for reference.
Input Tips for Better Accuracy
1) Birth time matters a lot
Even a 10–15 minute difference can move the ascendant degree significantly. If possible, use recorded birth time rather than memory.
2) Use the birth place coordinates
Latitude and longitude should match the actual birth location, not your current city.
3) Enter timezone carefully
Timezone is the local offset from UTC at birth. For example: IST is +5.5, Pakistan is +5, Nepal is +5.75, New York is often -5 or -4 depending on daylight saving time.
