lost ark upgrade calculator

Lost Ark Upgrade Calculator

Plan your honing push with expected attempts, estimated gold, and material cost (as gold equivalent). This model includes a simplified Artisan Energy pity system.

Tip: If your materials are not converted to gold, enter 0 for material cost and track those separately.

How to use this Lost Ark upgrade calculator

This tool estimates how expensive your honing journey can be between two item levels. Enter your current and target item level, then fill in your average success rate and average cost per attempt. The calculator returns an expected number of taps, expected gold burn, and expected total including materials.

Quick setup checklist

  • Set Current Item Level and Target Item Level.
  • Set Item Level Gain per Success (commonly 5 in many progression bands).
  • Use your realistic Base Success Rate after books, research, and buffs.
  • Add Gold Cost and Material Cost per attempt.
  • Enter your Artisan gain and your current Artisan value for the next tap.

What the calculator models

The calculator uses a simplified probabilistic model:

  • Each attempt starts with the same success rate you provide.
  • On failure, Artisan Energy increases by your configured percent.
  • When Artisan reaches 100%, the next attempt is treated as guaranteed success.
  • After a successful upgrade, the next level starts with 0% Artisan (except the first step, where your starting Artisan is used).

This is useful for planning, budgeting, and comparing push windows during events.

How to interpret results

Expected attempts

This is the long-run average number of taps needed. Your actual run can be luckier or much worse. Over many characters and many upgrades, your outcomes move closer to the expected value.

Minimum and maximum attempts

Minimum attempts assume every upgrade succeeds immediately. Maximum attempts assume you fail until pity each time and then succeed on the guaranteed tap.

Pity chance

The calculator also shows the probability of hitting pity at least once in your whole push. This helps explain why long upgrade chains feel brutally volatile even when averages look manageable.

Upgrade planning tips for Lost Ark

  • Batch your honing during value windows: event books, discount research, and extra mats can change total expected spend dramatically.
  • Track cost per item level gained: this is often a better decision metric than raw gold spent.
  • Separate main vs alt economics: your main can justify expensive pushes; alts usually need stricter breakpoints.
  • Avoid emotional tapping: set a gold cap before you start and stop when you hit it.
  • Use expected values for planning, not guarantees: variance is part of honing.

Example scenario

Suppose you move from 1580 to 1620 with +5 item level per success. That means 8 successful upgrades. At a 10% base rate with moderate per-tap cost and standard Artisan growth, your expected attempts can be many times higher than 8. This is why preparing enough bound and tradable resources before starting a push is usually the optimal strategy.

FAQ

Does this include advanced honing, special systems, or every patch-specific rule?

No. This is a clean planning calculator, not a full game-state simulator. Use it as a financial and probability guide.

Can I model books, solars, and support buffs?

Yes. Just reflect those boosts in your effective success rate and adjusted per-attempt costs.

Can I use this for alts?

Absolutely. It is especially helpful for alt investment decisions because you can compare expected spend against projected weekly income.
