Vimshottari Mahadasha & Antardasha Calculator
Select your Mahadasha lord and start date to generate all nine Antardasha periods. You can also set a reference date to see the currently running Antardasha.
Calculation method: Vimshottari proportion (Mahadasha years ร Antardasha years รท 120), converted into days using 365.25 days/year.
What this Mahadasha Antardasha calculator does
This tool helps you map the timeline of Antardasha (sub-periods) inside a selected Mahadasha period using the classic Vimshottari dasha system. Once you enter the Mahadasha lord and start date, the calculator creates a complete sequence of all nine Antardashas in the correct planetary order.
It also checks a reference date and tells you which Antardasha is active on that date. This is useful for transit analysis, event timing, and organizing yearly horoscope notes.
Vimshottari dasha years used in calculation
- Ketu: 7 years
- Venus: 20 years
- Sun: 6 years
- Moon: 10 years
- Mars: 7 years
- Rahu: 18 years
- Jupiter: 16 years
- Saturn: 19 years
- Mercury: 17 years
How the formula works
In Vimshottari, each Antardasha length is proportional to the major period. The standard formula is:
Antardasha duration = (Mahadasha duration ร Antardasha planet years) / 120
Example: if you are in a Jupiter Mahadasha (16 years), then Jupiter-Venus Antardasha duration is: (16 ร 20) / 120 = 2.6667 years (approximately).
How to use this calculator effectively
1) Enter the exact Mahadasha start date
Use the date when that Mahadasha actually began in your chart. If your date is off, all Antardasha boundaries shift.
2) Choose a reference date
Usually this is today's date, but you can also test future dates for planning, or past dates for validation.
3) Read the full table, not just one line
Strong timing work comes from context. Note when a sub-period starts, peaks, and ends. Major life events often occur near transitions.
Interpreting Mahadasha-Antardasha combinations
Results are never based on period names alone. Always combine dasha timing with house ownership, planetary dignity, conjunctions, aspects, divisional charts, and transits.
- Supportive combinations: often align with growth, stability, and clearer opportunities.
- Challenging combinations: may bring pressure, delays, or restructuring that ultimately leads to maturity.
- Transition windows: the final months of one Antardasha and first months of the next can feel especially active.
Important limitations
This is a timing calculator, not a full astrology engine. It does not compute your birth chart, nakshatra balance at birth, or rectification corrections. For advanced predictions, pair this output with a complete Jyotish chart analysis.
If you want precision to the day and hour across long spans, work with verified birth time and professional software. Still, this page gives a practical and reliable structure for most Mahadasha/Antardasha planning.
