Try the Name Calculator
Enter a first name, full name, or brand name to calculate its letter score (A=1, B=2, ... Z=26), reduced core number, and more.
What is a name calculator?
A name calculator converts letters into numbers and then combines those numbers to create a simple score. People use these tools for fun, naming ideas, numerology-style reflection, and creative branding. It is not a scientific personality test, but it can be a useful way to compare names quickly.
How this calculator works
1) Letter-to-number mapping
Each letter is assigned a value using the A1Z26 format: A=1, B=2, C=3 ... Z=26.
2) Total name score
The calculator removes spaces and punctuation, keeps letters only, and adds all letter values together. This gives your Total Name Score.
3) Reduced core number
The total is then reduced by adding its digits repeatedly until a single digit appears. For example: 74 → 7+4=11. In this calculator, 11, 22, and 33 are preserved as “master numbers.”
4) Vowel and consonant analysis
Vowels and consonants are scored separately so you can compare the internal structure of a name. This is helpful when testing alternative spellings.
How to use your results
- Compare options: Great for baby names, pen names, product names, and usernames.
- Check balance: See whether vowels or consonants dominate your name pattern.
- Explore initials: Initials can matter for memorability and branding.
- Spot repeated letters: Repetition may affect visual rhythm and pronunciation.
Quick example
If the name is Ada Lovelace:
- Letters become numbers and are added for a total score.
- The total is reduced to a core number.
- Vowels and consonants are scored independently.
- Initials are extracted automatically (A.L.).
This gives you a compact numeric snapshot that is easy to compare with other names.
Best practices for name testing
Try multiple spellings
Small spelling changes can significantly alter numeric totals and letter frequency.
Say it out loud
A good score is interesting, but clarity and pronunciation matter more in real life.
Check readability
If your audience can’t spell or remember it, the name may underperform even if the number looks ideal.
