How the calculation works
This page calculates the tropical Mean North Node using a standard astronomical approximation from Julian Date time. Then it places the South Node exactly 180° opposite the North Node.
In plain English: once we know the node’s ecliptic longitude, we convert that longitude into zodiac sign + degree format (for example, 17° Leo).
Formula used for mean ascending node longitude (degrees):
Ω = 125.04452 − 1934.136261·T + 0.0020708·T² + T³/450000
where T is Julian centuries from J2000.0.
FAQ
Is this calculator tropical or sidereal?
Tropical. If you use a sidereal framework (including many Vedic methods with Rahu/Ketu), your sign placements can differ.
Mean node or true node?
This tool uses the mean node. True node calculations include short-term oscillation and can vary slightly in degree and occasionally sign near cusps.
Is this enough for a full natal chart reading?
Not by itself. Lunar nodes are one important thread. For a complete interpretation, combine nodes with house placements, planetary aspects, and chart ruler dynamics.
