OSRS Combat Level Calculator

Enter your skill levels to calculate your Old School RuneScape combat level instantly.

Formula used: OSRS standard combat formula (max level 126).

What this OSRS combat calculator does

This tool calculates your exact combat level in Old School RuneScape using your current Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, Magic, and Prayer levels. It also shows which combat style currently gives you the highest offensive contribution and provides a quick estimate of how many levels you need in each skill to reach the next combat level.

If you are preparing for PvM, Slayer, bossing, or PvP brackets, this calculator can help you decide where to train next. Many players waste time leveling skills that barely move their combat level. With the breakdown shown here, you can prioritize your most impactful upgrades.

OSRS combat level formula (explained)

OSRS combat level is based on a defensive base plus your strongest offensive style (melee, ranged, or magic). The game compares those three offensive values and only uses the highest one.

base = 0.25 × (Defence + Hitpoints + floor(Prayer / 2)) melee = 0.325 × (Attack + Strength) ranged = 0.325 × floor(Ranged × 1.5) magic = 0.325 × floor(Magic × 1.5) combat level = floor(base + max(melee, ranged, magic))

Why this matters for training

  • Melee builds: Attack and Strength levels are both valuable.
  • Ranged builds: Ranged scales with a 1.5 multiplier before the 0.325 factor.
  • Magic builds: Magic follows the same 1.5 multiplier behavior as Ranged.
  • All builds: Defence, Hitpoints, and Prayer increase your base, so they always help.

How to use this calculator effectively

1) Enter your exact current stats

Pull your levels directly from your in-game stats tab and enter them exactly. Small level differences, especially around thresholds, can change your result.

2) Check your dominant style

The calculator shows which style currently drives your combat level the most. If you're training a style that is not dominant, your combat level may increase slower than expected.

3) Use next-level estimates

The "levels to next combat" section gives single-skill estimates. This is great for planning short training sessions: one or two focused levels can sometimes push you over a bracket.

Practical planning tips for PvM and PvP

  • For bossing: Keep Defence and Hitpoints healthy to improve survivability, even if your offensive stats are already high.
  • For pure accounts: Monitor Prayer carefully. Prayer affects base combat and can move your combat bracket faster than expected.
  • For Slayer progression: Balanced melee stats often feel smoother than pushing one stat too far ahead.
  • For bracket control: Recalculate after every level-up when you are near a combat breakpoint.

Example scenarios

Melee main account

If your Attack and Strength are both high while Ranged and Magic lag behind, melee will almost always be your dominant offensive style. In that case, improving Defence/Hitpoints/Prayer can be an efficient way to gain combat level while becoming tankier for PvM.

Ranged-focused account

Because Ranged uses floor(Ranged × 1.5), certain Ranged levels create stronger jumps than others. If you are close to a threshold, one extra level may matter more than expected.

Hybrid progression

If melee, ranged, and magic are close together, your dominant style can flip depending on a single level. This is one reason many players feel their combat level gains are inconsistent—small stat changes can switch which formula branch is active.
