Estimate Your Fertile Window and Next Period

Use this ovulation and period calculator to estimate your next period start date, likely ovulation day, and your fertile window. Results are estimates, not a diagnosis.

How this ovulation and period calculator works

This calculator uses a standard cycle-based method to estimate key dates in your menstrual cycle. You enter the start date of your last period and your average cycle length, and the tool estimates when your next period may start and when ovulation is most likely to occur.

Most calculators assume ovulation happens roughly 14 days before your next period. In reality, that timing can vary, which is why this tool also lets you adjust the luteal phase length. This gives a more personalized estimate when you already know your typical pattern.

What each input means

  • First day of your last period: Day 1 of menstrual bleeding.
  • Average cycle length: Number of days from one period start to the next.
  • Average period length: Typical number of bleeding days.
  • Luteal phase length: Days from ovulation to the next period.
  • Future cycles to show: How many upcoming cycles you want in the prediction table.

Understanding your results

After calculation, you’ll see four core estimates:

  • Estimated ovulation date (highest likelihood day)
  • Fertile window (usually 5 days before ovulation through about 1 day after)
  • Next period start
  • Estimated period end

You’ll also get a multi-cycle table to help with planning. This is useful for cycle tracking, trying to conceive, or just anticipating period dates for travel, work, or school.

Tips to improve accuracy

1) Track for at least 3 cycles

If your cycle varies month to month, average your cycle length over several months for better estimates.

2) Confirm ovulation signs

If pregnancy planning is your goal, combine calculator estimates with ovulation predictor kits (OPKs), cervical mucus observations, or basal body temperature tracking.

3) Update inputs regularly

Your cycle can shift due to stress, travel, illness, sleep changes, exercise load, and hormonal transitions. Recalculate as new data becomes available.

For irregular cycles

If your cycles are highly irregular, calendar-based predictions are less reliable. You may still use this tool for a rough estimate, but pair it with symptom and hormone tracking methods. If cycles are consistently very short, very long, or unpredictable, consider speaking with a healthcare professional for personalized guidance.

Quick FAQ

Can I ovulate earlier or later than predicted?

Yes. The predicted date is an estimate based on average cycle data. Ovulation can shift between cycles.

Is the fertile window only one day?

No. While ovulation day is central, sperm can survive several days, so the fertile window is broader.

Can this calculator confirm pregnancy?

No. It cannot diagnose pregnancy. If your period is late, use a pregnancy test and follow up with a healthcare provider if needed.
