Estimate Fertile Days & Due Date
Enter your cycle details to estimate your next ovulation date, fertile window, and pregnancy due date.
How this ovulation and pregnancy calculator works
This calculator uses common cycle math to estimate your most fertile days. Ovulation is estimated as:
- Cycle length - luteal phase length days after the start of your period.
- Your fertile window is estimated from 5 days before ovulation through 1 day after ovulation.
- If pregnancy occurs, estimated due date is calculated as LMP + 280 days or conception + 266 days.
These are statistical estimates, not exact predictions. Every body is different, and ovulation can shift even in regular cycles.
Understanding your fertile window
A pregnancy can happen when sperm are present in the reproductive tract near the time an egg is released. Sperm can survive several days, while the egg is usually viable for about 12-24 hours.
That is why the best time to try for pregnancy usually starts a few days before ovulation—not only on ovulation day itself.
Typical fertile pattern
- Most fertile: 1-2 days before ovulation and ovulation day
- Potentially fertile: up to 5 days before ovulation
- Lower chance: outside the fertile window
Tips for improving accuracy
If your cycle varies month to month, combine date-based calculation with body signs and tracking methods.
- Track cycle length for at least 3-6 months.
- Use ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) to detect LH surge.
- Monitor cervical mucus (often clear/stretchy near ovulation).
- Track basal body temperature trends after ovulation.
- Log symptoms in a period tracking app or journal.
When trying to conceive
For many couples, intercourse every 1-2 days during the fertile window offers a practical balance of timing and low stress. If daily timing feels overwhelming, every other day can still be highly effective.
After ovulation, implantation and hormone rise take time. Most home pregnancy tests are more reliable around the day your next period is due, or a few days after a missed period.
If your cycles are irregular
Irregular cycles can make predictions less precise because ovulation may happen earlier or later than expected. In this case:
- Use wider fertile windows instead of a single ovulation date.
- Consider combining OPKs and cervical mucus tracking.
- Discuss persistent irregularity with a healthcare professional.
When to talk to a healthcare professional
- You are under 35 and have tried for 12 months without pregnancy.
- You are 35 or older and have tried for 6 months without pregnancy.
- Your periods are very irregular, very painful, or frequently absent.
- You have known reproductive health conditions (e.g., PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid disorders).
Frequently asked questions
Can I ovulate right after my period?
Yes, especially if your cycle is short. Ovulation can occur soon after bleeding ends in some people.
Is this calculator useful for avoiding pregnancy?
Date-only predictions are not reliable enough for contraception. If you want to avoid pregnancy, use a proven birth control method and seek guidance from a qualified clinician.
Why does my predicted date change each month?
Stress, sleep changes, illness, travel, medication, and natural hormonal variation can all affect ovulation timing.
