How this calculator works
1) Convert each placement to zodiac longitude
Each sign covers 30 degrees. Aries starts at 0°, Taurus at 30°, Gemini at 60°, and so on. The calculator converts your sign-degree-minute input into a full 0°–360° longitude value.
2) Apply the day or night formula
- Day chart: Part of Fortune = Ascendant + Moon − Sun
- Night chart: Part of Fortune = Ascendant + Sun − Moon
This day/night switch is essential and is where many manual calculations go wrong.
3) Normalize back to 0°–360°
If the raw result is negative or above 360, the value is wrapped into the zodiac circle and shown in both decimal longitude and sign-degree-minute format.
Why day vs night charts matter
The Part of Fortune is rooted in sect logic: day and night charts are treated differently because solar and lunar emphasis flips. In a day chart, the Moon is added to the Ascendant and the Sun is subtracted. In a night chart, the Sun and Moon are reversed in the formula.
