How the Take-Home Math Works

Pre-tax deductions are subtracted first:
Taxable Pay = Gross per Paycheck − Pre-tax Deductions
3) Taxes and deductions
Federal and state taxes are applied to taxable pay, while Social Security and Medicare are applied to gross pay in this estimator. Then post-tax deductions and other withholdings are removed.
4) Net paycheck
Net Pay = Gross − Pre-tax Deductions − Taxes − Post-tax Deductions − Other Withholding
