Path of Exile DPS Calculator
Enter your offensive stats to estimate single-target hit DPS. This is a fast planning tool for attacks and spells.
Note: This estimate does not include ailment DPS (ignite/poison/bleed), projectile overlaps, ramping buffs, uptime variance, guard skill windows, or boss-specific phases.
What this poe dps calculator does
This tool estimates hit-based single-target DPS in Path of Exile using a transparent formula. It is designed for quick iteration while planning a build, comparing upgrades, or checking whether a support gem swap is worth it.
You enter the core offensive values: average hit, hit rate, increased damage, more damage, critical strike stats, chance to hit, and enemy resistance after penetration. The calculator then combines those into a practical DPS estimate and gives a short breakdown so you can see where your damage is coming from.
How the calculation works
1) Build your pre-crit hit
The calculator starts with your average base hit and multiplies it by:
- Increased damage multiplier = 1 + (increased % / 100)
- More damage multiplier = 1 + (more % / 100)
- Resistance multiplier = 1 - (effective resistance / 100)
Effective resistance is enemy resistance minus your penetration/exposure input, with practical caps applied in this tool for stability.
2) Apply critical strike weighting
Crits are averaged using your crit chance and crit multiplier:
- Average crit factor = 1 + critChance × (critMulti - 1)
That factor scales your non-crit average hit to produce an average hit that includes both crit and non-crit outcomes.
3) Convert average hit into DPS
DPS is then:
- DPS = averageHit × hitsPerSecond × chanceToHit
If you provide enemy life, the tool also estimates time-to-kill under perfect uptime conditions.
How to use this for real build decisions
Compare one variable at a time
For reliable optimization, change one input at a time. For example, compare:
- +1 gem level versus a support gem swap
- extra crit chance versus extra crit multiplier
- attack speed roll versus flat added damage
- penetration source versus generic increased damage
Watch your multipliers, not just raw hit size
A bigger tooltip hit is not always better if it costs too much attack/cast speed or crit consistency. High-performing POE builds usually stack multiple multiplier layers instead of over-investing in a single stat.
Use the enemy resistance input intentionally
Mapping, pinnacle bosses, invitations, and Uber content can feel very different because of resistances and mitigation. Test several resistance cases to understand your floor and ceiling damage.
Important limitations
This calculator is intentionally lightweight. It does not model every POE system. Keep these limitations in mind:
- No poison, bleed, or ignite damage over time calculations
- No shotgun/overlap mechanics for projectiles or explosions
- No conditional uptime for flasks, charges, focus, or temporary buffs
- No enemy armor/evasion block simulation beyond your chance-to-hit input
- No survivability tradeoff analysis
Practical optimization checklist
- Cap accuracy (or use always-hit mechanics where applicable)
- Raise effective crit chance before heavily stacking crit multi
- Balance increased and more multipliers
- Prioritize penetration/exposure in resistance-heavy encounters
- Validate with in-game testing and Path of Building before major investments
Final thoughts
A good poe dps calculator helps you make faster, cleaner decisions. Use this page as a quick model to test upgrades and build directions, then validate in your complete build planner for edge cases and advanced interactions. Consistent, iterative testing is what turns a decent build into a boss-melting one.
