Pokémon Type Weakness Calculator

Select one or two defending types to see what attacking types deal extra damage, reduced damage, or no damage at all.

Example: Fire + Flying shows a 4× weakness to Rock and immunity to Ground.

How to use this calculator

This tool calculates defensive matchups for any Pokémon type combination. In other words, it tells you how much damage your Pokémon receives from each attacking type.

  • Pick your Pokémon’s primary type.
  • Add a secondary type if it is dual-type.
  • Click Calculate Weaknesses.
  • Review 4× weaknesses, 2× weaknesses, resistances, and immunities.

Why type weakness calculations matter

Type matchups are one of the biggest factors in battle outcomes. A team with great base stats can still lose quickly if it has overlapping weaknesses (for example, multiple members weak to Ground or Fairy). Knowing your weakness map helps you:

  • Choose safer switch-ins.
  • Build better offensive and defensive cores.
  • Avoid stacking major weaknesses across your team.
  • Plan support moves and Tera options more intelligently.

How the logic works

Single-type Pokémon

For single-type Pokémon, each attacking type has one multiplier: 0×, 0.5×, 1×, or 2×.

Dual-type Pokémon

For dual types, multipliers are multiplied together. That means you can get:

  • 4× damage (double weakness stacked with another weakness)
  • 2× damage (standard weakness)
  • 1× damage (neutral)
  • 0.5× damage (resistance)
  • 0.25× damage (double resistance)
  • 0× damage (immunity)

Practical examples

Example 1: Water / Ground

Water/Ground has only one weakness, but it is huge: 4× to Grass. In return, it gains powerful defensive value, including immunity to Electric.

Example 2: Fire / Flying

Fire/Flying suffers a famous 4× weakness to Rock, which makes entry hazards dangerous. However, it gains an immunity to Ground and useful resistances to Grass and Bug.

Example 3: Steel / Fairy

Steel/Fairy is one of the strongest defensive pairings in many formats, with lots of resistances and key immunities, balanced by notable weaknesses such as Ground and Fire.

Team-building tips with weakness data

  • Pair your biggest weakness with an immunity partner (e.g., Ground weakness + Flying immunity).
  • Track hazard vulnerabilities (especially Rock weakness for Flying/Fire/Bug/Ice types).
  • Use pivots and defensive synergy, not just raw offensive pressure.
  • Check your team for repeated 2× and 4× weaknesses before laddering.

FAQ

Does this include abilities, items, weather, or move effects?

No. This calculator focuses on base type interactions only. Abilities like Levitate, Thick Fat, or Flash Fire can change real battle outcomes.

Is this chart aligned with modern main-series type interactions?

Yes. It follows the standard modern 18-type matchup rules used in current generations.

Can I use this for offense too?

Indirectly, yes. If a target is weak to a type defensively, that type is strong offensively into it.
