pregnancy ivf due date calculator

IVF Pregnancy Due Date Calculator

Estimate your due date using either your embryo transfer date or egg retrieval date.

This tool provides an estimate only. Always follow your fertility clinic or OB provider's dating guidance.

How an IVF due date calculator works

An IVF pregnancy due date calculator is often more precise than a standard natural conception calculator, because IVF gives us exact treatment dates. Instead of estimating ovulation from your last menstrual period, we calculate from the date you know: embryo transfer or egg retrieval.

Most clinics use the same core approach:

  • Egg retrieval date: add 266 days (38 weeks).
  • Day-3 transfer: add 263 days to transfer date.
  • Day-5 transfer: add 261 days to transfer date.

Why IVF dating is usually more accurate

In non-IVF pregnancies, many calculators assume ovulation happened around day 14 of a cycle. But cycle length and ovulation timing vary from person to person. With IVF, embryo age and transfer timing are known, which reduces guesswork.

That said, your provider may still adjust the expected due date after early ultrasound if measurements suggest a more accurate timeline for your specific pregnancy.

IVF due date formulas explained

If you know your transfer date

Use embryo age at transfer:

  • For a 3-day embryo: due date = transfer date + 263 days
  • For a 5-day embryo: due date = transfer date + 261 days

If you know your retrieval date

Use this simple formula:

  • Due date = egg retrieval date + 266 days

This matches the idea that fertilization occurs around retrieval and full gestation is ~38 weeks from conception.

Important pregnancy milestones after IVF

Many parents prefer to track milestones in addition to the estimated due date. Common timeline points include:

  • End of first trimester: around 13 weeks, 6 days
  • Anatomy scan window: roughly 18 to 22 weeks
  • Viability milestone: 24 weeks
  • Full term: 39 to 40 weeks

The calculator above includes several of these dates so you can plan appointments and prepare for each phase.

Frequently asked questions

Is IVF due date always exact?

No due date is exact. It is an estimate. Only a small percentage of babies arrive on their due date. Think of it as a target window for planning.

Does frozen embryo transfer change the formula?

The same transfer-date formula applies for frozen embryo transfer (FET). What matters is embryo age at transfer and the transfer date itself.

What if my clinic gives a different date?

Use your clinic's date. Clinical protocols, embryo development details, and early ultrasound findings may lead your care team to choose a more appropriate estimated due date.

Tips for using an IVF pregnancy calculator correctly

  • Double-check your transfer or retrieval date before calculating.
  • Select the correct embryo age (3-day or 5-day).
  • Recalculate only if your provider updates dating based on scan results.
  • Use reminders for key prenatal appointments and tests.
