What Is a QB Rating Calculator?
A qb rating calculator helps you quickly compute a quarterback's official NFL passer rating from five passing stats: completions, attempts, passing yards, touchdown passes, and interceptions. Instead of manually doing multiple formulas and caps, you can enter one game line and get the result instantly.
Passer rating is often used to summarize how efficiently a quarterback threw the ball. It is not a complete measure of total QB play, but it remains one of the most recognized passing metrics in football media, fantasy analysis, and game recaps.
How the NFL Passer Rating Formula Works
The NFL formula converts four passing efficiency factors into components labeled a, b, c, and d:
- a = ((Completions / Attempts) − 0.3) × 5
- b = ((Yards / Attempts) − 3) × 0.25
- c = (Touchdowns / Attempts) × 20
- d = 2.375 − ((Interceptions / Attempts) × 25)
Each component is then bounded between 0 and 2.375. Finally, the total is scaled:

Quick Interpretation Guide
- Below 70: generally a rough passing day
- 70–85: below-average to average
- 85–100: solid to good performance
- 100+: very efficient game

Important Notes
Passer rating only covers passing outcomes. It does not include sacks taken, rushing value, fumbles, situational difficulty, or game context. For fuller analysis, pair it with advanced metrics like EPA/play, QBR, success rate, and adjusted net yards per attempt.
