What Is the Ascendant?

In astrology, the Ascendant is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. While your Sun sign describes your core identity, your Ascendant often reflects your outward style, first impressions, and the way you meet life.

The script calculates Greenwich Mean Sidereal Time (GMST), then adjusts for your longitude to get Local Sidereal Time (LST). LST tells us which right ascension is on your local meridian at that exact moment.

3) Solve Horizon + Ecliptic Intersection

The Ascendant is where the ecliptic intersects the eastern horizon. Numerically, this page solves for that ecliptic longitude and selects the rising (eastern) solution. The result is converted into sign + degree format.
